Prideaux Lecture & Clergy Workshop

Prideaux Lecture & Clergy Workshop: Imago Dei, Political Economy, and the Commons

Join Professor Luke Bretherton, Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology, University of Oxford on 27 and 28 February for a fascinating lecture and workshop on the theme of Imago Dei, Political Economy, and the Commons.

Lecture – Friday 27 February at 6:30pm, drinks reception from 6pm
University of Exeter, Streatham Campus, Newman Purple Lecture Room

The lecture argues that recovering the social practice of the commons offers both a theological and practical framework for addressing today’s intertwined ecological and political crises. By reclaiming the commons—from parish gardens to digital networks and crown lands—we can cultivate forms of integral ecology that honour the dignity of persons, renew creation, and re-imagine institutions capable of sustaining a humane, hopeful, and democratic future.

Please register at least 48 hours in advance if you wish to attend online.

Pastoral leadership as political leadership: Clergy Workshop – Saturday 28 February, 10am – 1pm, followed by a sandwich lunch
Exeter Cathedral Law Library

This workshop will pick up the same themes as the lecture, with more time for discussion.

Please register here if you wish to attend: places are limited.*

*Following the terms of the Prideaux bequest, the workshop will give priority to ordained and licensed ministers, those in formation and those otherwise supporting Christian ministry in South West England.

The Prideaux lectures are funded by an endowment in the will of Canon S P T Prideaux, to honour the memory of Bishop John Prideaux of Worcester. They take place with the cooperation of the University of Exeter, the Diocese of Exeter and Exeter Cathedral.

If you have any queries about registering for the workshop, please contact Canon Professor Morwenna Ludlow.
