Summer Music Series: Dialogue

On Monday 29 August at 2pm, string duo Dialogue will perform the final afternoon recital of the Summer Music Series. Dialogue Viols was formed to bring the beautiful yet rarely performed music of the French Baroque for two violas da gamba to audiences. This includes the rich source of music for the smallest members of the viola da gamba family, the six pardessus de viole and five string quinton, as well as the seven string bass viola da gamba, also known as bass viol.


Heart Strings: Intimate and sumptuous music from France for violas da gamba

  • Seven string bass viols: Sainte-Colombe: Concert XI Air à boire, Sarabande La mignarde, Gavotte.
  • Six string pardessus de violes: Jean-Baptiste Dupuits: Premiere Sonate, Largo, Gavotte en Rondeau, Fantaisie, Menuets en Rondeau
  • Five string quintons: Alexandre de Villeneuve: Conversations en manière de Sonates no. 3, Lentement et tendre, Allemande, Dialogue, La Sauteuse, Gayment. 
  • Seven string bass viols: Joseph Bodin de Boismortier Op 10. Sixième Sonata: Gayment, Lentement, Légèrement, Vivement
