Summer Concert Series: Timothy Noon

Summer Concert Series:
Timothy Noon

Thursday 31 July 2025 at 7pm

We are delighted to present a very special organ recital by Exeter Cathedral’s Director of Music, Timothy Noon, marking Play the Organ Year 2025 with an event that celebrates the inspiration and power of the pipe organ.

Entitled ‘The King of Instruments’, the programme takes its name from a 1970 LP recording that first inspired a young Timothy Noon to take up the organ 40 years ago. Now, in a full-circle moment, he returns to that same collection of works in a concert that is proudly billed as “an introduction to the enjoyment of organ music.”

The concert features a stirring selection of some of the most beloved and brilliant pieces in the organ repertoire, as originally featured on the influential LP:

Charles-Marie Widor – Toccata (Symphony No. 5)

Herbert Murrill – Carillon

Dieterich Buxtehude – Prelude and Fugue in G Minor

S. Bach– Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme

Louis Vierne – Carillon de Westminster

Sigfrid Karg-Elert – Now Thank We All Our God

Henry Purcell – Voluntary on the Old 100th

Léon Boëllmann – Toccata (Suite Gothique)

Norman Cocker – Tuba Tune

S. Bach– Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
