Summer Concert Series:
Adam Field
Thursday 28 August 2025 | 7pm
Exeter Cathedral Organ Scholar, Adam Field gives a final performance before taking up new post at Bath Abbey.
Exeter Cathedral’s Summer Concert Series continues with a special recital by Adam Field, marking his final performance before he takes up the post of Assistant Director of Music at Bath Abbey this autumn.
The recital’s centrepiece will be the two sets three of Psalm-Preludes by Herbert Howells. They represent are some of the most cherished works in the English organ repertoire, each one being a reflection on a verse of the Psalms. These deeply moving pieces, known for their expressive harmonies and rich textures, form the heart of Adam’s programme and will be performed in their entirety, showcasing Howells’ mastery of mood and colour.
In addition to Howells, the programme features J.S. Bach’s radiant Sinfonia to Cantata 29, in the virtuosic arrangement by Marcel Dupré — a dazzling display of counterpoint and keyboard technique. Adam will also play Sacred and Hallowed Fire by Cecilia McDowall, a feisty contemporary work based on a poem of George Herbert, The Priesthood.
This performance promises to be a memorable and fitting farewell, celebrating both Adam’s time at Exeter and the exciting next chapter in his career.
All are warmly invited to attend, support Adam, and enjoy an evening of exceptional music in the stunning setting of Exeter Cathedral.
