Library & Archives In Focus: Christmas in the Corners

Our final In Focus of the year is a celebration of Christmas. From the 8th century, enlarged initials, decorated or illuminated, were used by scribes and artists to indicate the beginning of a new section of text. ‘Historiated’ initials contain little figures or scenes that convey the meaning of the text. With the advent of printing in the mid-15th century, the practice continued using woodcuts – come along to discover the Christmas story in some of the smallest pictures in the Library!
Entry to the In Focus event is included in general Cathedral admission, which is currently FREE for the festive period.
