Lent Series 2024 – Female Theologians: St Perpetua by Revd. Canon Prof. Morwenna Ludlow

In The Sacristy at Exeter Cathedral via The West Wing

Join Revd. Canon Prof. Morwenna Ludlow on Tuesday 20 February, 2024 at 6.30-8.00pm for a Lent talk on the topic of St Perpetua.

Perpetua, along with her friend Felicity and others of their community, was put to death in Carthage by local Roman imperial authorities around the year 200AD. What is truly remarkable about Perpetua is not so much that she died for her faith but that, before she died, she recorded her experiences in prison including a series of vivid visions of heaven. Her account is one of the small handful of surviving texts by early Christian women. Morwenna will explain what we know about Perpetua and what her narrative can tell us about her Christian faith and her inspiring, but very human, hopes and fears.
