Exeter Cathedral Choir: Haydn’s Nelson Mass
Sunday 6 July at 10:30am
On Sunday 6 July, Exeter Cathedral Choir will offer a complete liturgical performance of Haydn’s celebrated Nelson Mass, accompanied by the Cathedral Orchestra. The service will feature soprano soloist Julia Featherstone and take place within the context of the Cathedral’s regular Sunday Eucharist at the slightly later time of 10:30am.
Written in 1798, the Nelson Mass—formally titled Missa in Angustiis (“Mass in Time of Anxiety”)—is one of Joseph Haydn’s most dramatic and powerful sacred works. Composed during a period of political upheaval in Europe, it later became associated with Admiral Lord Nelson, who was present at its early performances.
This special Eucharist will be a rare opportunity to hear the Nelson Mass in its original liturgical setting.
All are warmly invited to attend.
