The Book Market

The Book Market

Sunday 8 June 2025 at 11am-4pm

Book lovers, mark your calendars! The fifth annual Exeter City of Literature Book Market is set to take over Cathedral Green on Sunday 8 June from 11am to 4pm, for a vibrant celebration of Devon’s thriving literary scene.

12 independent bookshops from across Devon – alongside an expanded selection of vendors offering free literary-themed activities, crafts, and food and drink – will unite in Exeter for the fifth edition of the Exeter Book Market. Visitors can expect a day packed with exciting bookish activities, including bite-sized bibliotherapy sessions, a wheelchair-powered letterpress, memoir-writing tasters, and an incredible multi-sensory VR storytelling experience.

Last year’s introduction of the Author Tent was a resounding success, and Exeter City of Literature is delighted to announce its return this year. Featured authors include Sophie Pavelle, a Devon-based writer and science communicator whose debut Forget Me Not – all about the forgotten species in Britain affected by climate change – became a People’s Book Prize Non-Fiction winner and Jasmine Elmer, a TV presenter, author, and ancient world expert based in Exeter who released Goddess with a Thousand Faces in 2024, an exciting deep dive into goddesses from a variety of ancient myths and cultures.

Talks about the wider publishing industry, poetry, and the creative practice behind writing a novel will also take place, with a chance to hear from booksellers about how they opened their own independent bookshops in Devon.

Whether you’re an avid reader, a budding writer, or simply looking for a unique way to spend a summery Sunday, the Exeter City of Literature Book Market on Sunday is not to be missed!
