The Medieval Hall
The Medieval Hall is a Grade I listed building, located opposite Exeter Cathedral on Cathedral Close. The Hall is also known as the ‘Law Library’ due to the space being sublet to the Exeter Law Library Society at the end of the 19th century. Its magnificent 15th century ceiling is a miniature copy of the hammer beam roof of Westminster Hall, London.
Recently acquired by Exeter Cathedral, the Hall is in need of essential conservation and repairs to make sure this remarkable piece of medieval architecture is preserved for generations to come, and transform it into a welcoming space for events and community gatherings as well as educational classes and activities. Vital works will include installing improved lighting, improved WCs and introducing a more efficient heating system that will also help us to reduce our carbon footprint.
We are grateful to the Architectural Heritage Fund for their generous grant of £100k towards this ambitious project to protect The Medieval Hall – a historic treasure in the heart of Devon.
