Why is there more scaffolding at the Cathedral?

Scaffolding will being to appear on the south side of the Cathedral this week as the final phase of our asbestos removal programme gets underway.

Funded by The Friends of Exeter Cathedral, this latest work is part of an going programme of maintenance to this ancient place, parts of which date back to the 12th century.

Installed over several days, the scaffolding will provide external access to the roof void above the south nave aisle, and allows specialist contractors to safely remove asbestos to ground level.

Access to the Cathedral and the Cathedral Café is unaffected by the works, which are due to be completed by the beginning of November. There is no danger to members of the public.
