Background Information

Exeter Cathedral first hosted the Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market on its Cathedral Green in 2017, and the event is becoming increasingly popular each year.

In 2019 we welcomed an estimated 600,000 visitors to enjoy the festive labyrinth of winding lanes, filled with Bavarian-style chalets housing everything from global cuisine and pop-up bars to local traders and craftspeople selling unique gifts and decorations.

We were unable to hold the Market in 2020 because of Covid-19 restrictions.

In 2021 there will be more than 90 traders spread across the wide open space of the Cathedral Green.

Visitors are welcome to explore the inside of the Cathedral (the admission fee has been waived for the duration of the Christmas Market).

Located in the heart of the city, Cathedral Green is Exeter’s ultimate location for Christmas shoppers and tourists.

It surrounds the famous landmark Cathedral – itself a hub of festive activity, including carol services, concerts, events and tours.

Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market was Best Event finalist at the 2018 and 2019 Exeter Living Awards. The ‘Cathedral Tavern’ was awarded Best Bar.
