Hands on History – Archives Across Time

Hands on History – Archives Across Time

Thursday 13 August 2026 | 2pm-4pm

Have you ever wondered what secrets a 1,000 year old archive holds? Or what stories are hiding in the Cathedral’s oldest documents?

Join us for an interactive afternoon in the Cathedral Archives, where you’ll journey through ‘Archives Across Time’ – from Anglo-Saxon Charters written over 1,000 years ago, to Henry VIII’s will, and scrapbooks from the 1950s. You’ll get hands-on with original documents and objects from different periods, discovering how they were made, what they reveal about the people who created them, and how they’ve been preserved over centuries.

Step into the past as you explore early records, and more modern materials, uncovering how everyday life, communication, and storytelling have changed over time. What can these archives tell us about people throughout history?

Come along, ask questions and uncover the stories waiting to be discovered across a thousand years of history.

Tickets: £5pp

Spaces are limited so please get in touch with Ella Barber, Youth Engagement Officer, to express your interest in attending this session. Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
