Ukrainian Friends Delighted with Visit to Exeter Cathedral

On Saturday 13 May a group of Ukrainian visitors who have sought refuge locally spent an enjoyable couple of hours touring the Cathedral in the company of volunteer guide Mike Richards.

The tour was jointly arranged by Mike and Anna at the Paris St Conversation Café – a Ukrainian refugee support hub – and was facilitated by interpreter Olena.

The group showed great interest in the history of our cathedral and particularly enjoyed learning about the visit by Catherine of Aragon to the Deanery in 1501, our astronomical clock (and the cat/cat flap of course), Butch ‘the pipe smoking dog’ and Peter Dare’s work on the north side of the building. They were also intrigued about the dog whipper/bell toller apartment above the north door and the garderobe.
