Former Exeter Cathedral chorister wins BBC Songs of Praise Senior Young Chorister of the Year 2026

Ginevra, who sang in Exeter Cathedral Choir until 2022, has been named BBC Songs of Praise Senior Young Chorister of the Year 2026.

Ginevra, who is now studying at Blundell’s School in Tiverton, was announced as the winner on Sunday 18 October. She was one of the Choir’s 40 choristers during her time at Exeter Cathedral.

Ginevra thanked the Cathedral on Instagram, writing that she “couldn’t have done it without the Cathedral’s and the Choir’s support”.

Timothy Noon, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, said: “When Ginevra auditioned for the Cathedral Choir aged just seven, singing Handel, I turned to my colleagues and confidently announced that she was going to be great. It has been an enormous privilege to be part of her early musical journey and to watch her develop into the outstanding all-round musician, and lovely person, she is today.”

He added: “Everyone at the Cathedral is absolutely thrilled that Ginevra has been named BBC Senior Young Chorister of the Year. And, ever the team player, she was singing with The Cathedral Consort at the Cathedral this Sunday morning, singing fabulously as always. We are immensely proud of Ginevra and offer her our warmest congratulations.”

Ginevra’s winning performance is available to watch on BBC iPlayer until September 2027, with the hope that it will inspire a new generation of young singers to explore choristership in England’s great cathedrals.

Exeter Cathedral’s next Chorister exploration day, Be a Chorister for a Day, takes place on Saturday 28 November. Parents of children in school years 2 to 5 who love to sing are encouraged to book a place via the Cathedral’s website.

Exeter Cathedral continues its nearly 1,000-year tradition of nurturing musical talent, and its Choir now looks forward to a busy Advent and Christmas season.
