Exeter Festival Chorus: Monteverdi Vespers of 1610
Saturday 11 July 2026 | 7:30pm
Some 120 voices of Exeter Festival Chorus and friends under its Musical Director, Andrea Brown, are thrilled to be performing the monumental masterpiece of the early Baroque, Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, in Exeter Cathedral on 11 July 2026 at 7:30pm.
The period instruments of Devon Baroque Orchestra and The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble will add an authenticity to the texture. The acclaimed vocal octet Contrepoint will deliver Monteverdi’s elaborate motets in a style reminiscent of 17th century choral music.
Vespers 1610 bridges the Renaissance and the Baroque, and dazzles with its kaleidoscope of styles, by turns intimate and majestic, serene and dramatic, spiritual and sensual, producing an array of sound taking us on an uplifting musical journey.
