Exeter University Shakespeare Company: The Duchess of Malfi
Wednesday 26 January 2022 7:00pm
The Duchess of Malfi celebrates women with power, as the Duchess rules and acts on her own will to remarry for love. This independence is tested through the world of men she operates in. They grow jealous of her influence and breaching of class boundaries by marrying Antonio, a woman of no status. The Duchess’ freedom becomes increasingly threatened by their toxic masculinity that cannot bear to see a woman in power, and their desire to control has dire consequences. Gender roles and power boundaries are malleable in one of the greatest tragedies of Renaissance drama.
Tickets are £13, or £11 for members of the Exeter University Shakespeare Company.
Doors open at 18:30, performance begins at 19:00.
