Summer Music Series: Chris Hamilton
Saturday 6 August 2022 2:00pm
On Saturday 6 August, organist Chris Hamilton will be performing for the Summer Music Series. Chris is Assistant Director of Music at St Stephen’s Gloucester Road, London; an Anglican parish in South Kensington with a rich musical tradition and the spiritual home of T.S. Eliot – sometime churchwarden at St Stephen’s. Chris previously held the organ scholarship at Downing College, Cambridge, and directed the music at Fisher House, the Catholic Chaplaincy to the University. Chris combines his busy schedule as an organist and choral director with a career as a specialist structural engineering consultant with Arup in London, having graduated with a master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge. Chris is originally from Devon, having grown up in Tiverton attending Blundell’s School.
Chris specialises in organ music from the baroque and classical periods which he studied with Stephen Farr while at Cambridge, and as such his programme will feature a selection of music from Bach, Buxtehude, and Couperin, culminating with Bach’s thrilling ‘Pièce d’Orgue’.
This event is included in the Cathedral’s standard admission price.
Running from 30 June to 1 September, this year’s Exeter Cathedral Summer Music Series brings you an inspired season of performances by esteemed organists, orchestras and choirs, visiting from across the UK and Ireland.
