Over 4,500 pupils visit Exeter Cathedral each year to help enrich and enhance their study of subjects such as RE, History, Art and Music. We welcome groups of all sizes and endeavour to provide a high quality service based on the individual requirements of each group.
Guided tours for school groups
We have a wide range of themed tours on offer for all schools who visit. Our trained guides will tell you about the life, history, and community of the Cathedral, focusing on your chosen topic area which might include signs and symbols, faith in art, medieval history and architecture. They are the ideal way to make the most of your visit and they are devised to complement the curriculum. A guided tour lasts between 45 mins to 1 hour (except for Pilgrimage, Walk the Timeline & Medieval Murder).
We had a lovely morning in which the children enjoyed, learnt and appreciated the Cathedral. Well organized and resourced activity too. The children were really thrilled with their cathedral experience! Thank you
Bow Hill Primary School
A Self-Guided visit allows you to visit the Cathedral and carry out your own prepared work for your group. Activity booklets and quiz trails which enable children to explore the building in groups or individually are available for different key stages (a small charge applies for these resources).
Climb to the top of the tower
We offer roof and tower tours for visiting school pupils over 8 years of age. Booking is essential.
