• • Unguided visit: Explore the Cathedral at your leisure, taking in the stained glass, small details and stonework at your own pace.

• • Guided tours (60 minutes): Our knowledgeable guides will help you to discover the history of the Cathedral and the stories of the people who have lived and worshipped here over the centuries.

• • Private evening tours (from 90 minutes): If you’re looking for something really special we recommend booking an ‘after hours’ evening tour of the Cathedral. Extend your visit by attending Choral Evensong and hearing our famous choir, a short recital on the Cathedral organ or even some drinks and canapés. We can also include a private roof tour as part of your evening.

• • Roof tours (60-90 minutes): Your visit to Exeter Cathedral isn’t limited to the ground floor! Our guides can take you on a true behind-the-scenes tour of the upper levels of the Cathedral. Climb high above the Nave, walking the length of the famous ceiling. Visit the bellringing chamber and North tower before emerging onto the roof with its stunning views over the city.

• • Lady Chapel and Bishop’s Palace Garden Tour (90 minutes): This tour offers a journey through time starting at the earliest days of the building of the Medieval Gothic Cathedral, looking around the Lady Chapel from the inside AND out, hearing a tale of political murder and ending up in the private gardens of the Bishop of Exeter. Its histories range from Roman times to yesterday, and as the tour develops, you’ll not only unlock the secrets of the palace, but find out about the history and makeup of all of Exeter.

• Library and Archive: The Cathedral’s Library and Archives was founded in the 11th century. All the experiences below include an introduction to our holdings and artefact-led discussion around your chosen theme. Feeling creative? Why not ask about our ‘making and doing’ programme that includes brass rubbing, clay gargoyles and creating your own ‘medieval manuscript’
