The Life of a Mendicant Musician

In this talk, Peter King will elaborate on his many and varied experiences as a mendicant musician, including the starting of the Abbey Girls’ Choir, installing an organ from Germany, and playing for conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to sharing his stories, Peter will share pictures of some of the most beautiful organ cases in Europe, and play recordings of extracts of music by Rossini, Saint-Saëns, Mahler (Symphonies ii & viii), Holst and more…

About the speaker

In an esteemed career, Peter was Director of Music at Bath Abbey for thirty years and Assistant Chorus Master for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for twenty years. He has also played at concerts such as the opening of the new organ in Symphony Hall, the Salzburg and Luzerne Festivals and the Proms.
