During May 1942 the city of Exeter was subject to a major devastating bombing raid as part of the Second World War. This tour looks in detail at the preparation for enemy action and how the Cathedral became a beacon in the chaos of war.
10.00 Exeter Cathedral – Links to Slavery 60mins
In the 1830s, when slavery was abolished, British slave-owners (but not those enslaved!) were awarded compensation. This tour will highlight some of the memorial plaques in the Cathedral that have a direct link to slavery.

Exeter Cathedral is rich with tombs and monuments, some relating to the great and the good (or not so good), some to the humble and ordinary, but all interesting and illustrative, as is the Cathedral itself, of one thousand years of English History. This tour will examine a cross-section of them.
