Marking 250 years since Beethoven’s birth, Exeter Philharmonic Choir and the renowned English Chamber Orchestra will perform his masterpiece Missa Solemnis in beautiful Exeter Cathedral. The work is one of Beethoven’s most theatrical, yet spiritual pieces, which was composed for his great friend and pupil Archduke Rudolph’s enthronement as Archbishop of Olmütz. On the manuscript of this work he wrote: From the heart – may it return to the heart.

Along with demanding solo and choral parts, it contains a beautiful violin solo in the Benedictus, and expressive brass and timpani in the Dona section.
