Friday 22nd March 2019 at 19:30

From Pergolesi to Pirates of the Caribbean

The Devon Youth Orchestras and friends present a concert of exciting and beautiful music for a spring evening performed by Devon’s leading young musicians.

The programme will range from choral items by the Exeter Cathedral Choir to epic orchestral works and film scores with music to suit all ages and tastes.

More about the orchestras

The 2 Devon Youth Orchestras have been run independently by Paul Painter since 2010 with support from the Devon Education Music Hub.

The Concert Orchestra (DYCO) is aimed at Grade 3 standard upwards. There is no audition as players are invited to try it for themselves. The repertoire includes film themes, light classics and any music with appeal to young orchestral players.

The Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) is for Grade 6 standard players upwards and plays more demanding music including suitable movements from symphonies, orchestral suites and interesting works from a range of musical periods.

Both orchestras, currently numbering over 100 players, have monthly rehearsals throughout the year as well as an inclusive 3-day residential for each at Buckfast Abbey. We perform regularly at events such as the Devon County Show and, alongside our regular sectional coaching, work with a range of locally and nationally recognised musicians including members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and BBC orchestras. Our most recent collaboration has been with BBC Introducing rock band ‘The Kaizens’.
