Tours of the Cathedral and Roof
Our guides are experts at making the Cathedral and its history come to life
Casual tours of the Cathedral floor (included in the admission charge) usually take place at 11.00, 12.30 and 14.30 Monday - Saturday. We recommend that you contact the office prior to visiting to ensure that the guided tour you wish to join is taking place.
Guided tours in several languages as well as specialist tours can be arranged for an additional charge.
On a beautiful day the views from the tower are amazing
Roof tours are a unique opportunity to get behind the scenes at the Cathedral. The tour are led by one of our experienced and knowledgeable guides who will show you incredible details, tell you fascinating stories and share unique insights to the history of the Cathedral.
See the mechanism for our famous clock, stand in the medieval lead workshop and climb to the top of one of the towers.
Roof tours last approximately 90 minutes and those taking part on a roof tour need to be reasonably fit and in good health to climb the narrow stone spiral staircase as there are 251 steps in total (minimum age 8). An additional charge is made for roof tours.
No time for a roof tour? Why not climb the tower?
From August 2013 we will be offering regular opportunities to climb the steps to the top of the North Tower and enjoy the magnificent views of Exeter city centre and beyond.
