River of Life exhibition

High quality, hand stitched banners by textile artist Jacqui Frost are currently on display in the Cathedral.

On the top of all ten screens are sentences from the Bible which refer to water - from Amos' plea: let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream to Jesus' promise that: everyone who drinks this water will be thristy again, but whoever drinks the water I give him, will never thrist. A combination of wadding, felting, photographic images, and beading creates a variety of textures.

The story on the lower section of the screens is the famous story of Jonah who disobeyed God and found himself gobbled up by a large fish.  Fortunately he thinks twice about his decision and the fish vomits him onto the local beach and he lives to do God's plan. Bright primary colours are used to create a vivid representation.

The artist's Christian faith forms the basis of all her textiles and Jacqui's work often includes words which form part of the narrative. She enjoys working with the concept of the 'revealed' and the 'concealed' often layering fabrics and exposing negative spaces. She explores the challenge of working on a large scale while retaining a fascination for areas of intricacy.

The banners can be found in the Cathedral opposite the entrance to The Lady Chapel.

Further information on the artist is available from Jacqui Frost's website.
