School Visits

Over 4,500 pupils visit us every year to explore and enhance their study of subjects such as RE, History, Art and Music. We welcome groups of all sizes and endeavour to provide a high quality service based on the individual requirements of each group.

Visiting Options

There are a number of visiting options available. To discuss your needs, our charges and to arrange a visit please contact  01392 285983 or email

The available options are:

Themed Visits:
Having received support from the Heritage Lottery Fund we have developed a new programme of special themed days. These themes focus on different aspects of the Cathedral, its history and its community. They are the ideal way to make the most of your visit and to ensure that the work pupils do complements the curriculum. A themed day lasts from around 10am – 2pm and includes a specialised tour, complementary workshop and a lunchroom included (at no extra cost).

Guided Tours:
We also offer guided tours for those groups who wish to spend around an hour exploring the Cathedral with our trained education volunteers. The tour can be a general overview of the life and history of the Cathedral or can focus on certain topics such as signs and symbols, faith in art, medieval history and architecture. Give us a call to discuss your requirements and we’ll be happy to design a special tour to suit your needs.

Self-guided Visits:
A self-guided visit allows you to visit the Cathedral to carry out your own prepared work.

Activity Booklets:
Activity booklets which enable children to explore the building in groups or individually are available from the Visitors’ Department. They take around 60 minutes to complete.

If you would like to do something specific, bring gifted and talented pupils or plan a visit as part of an activity/enrichment week give us a call! We are always happy to tailor visits to suit your needs.

Risk Assessments
