The Nave can accommodate up to 1020 people.
How to book an Evening Concert
The Dean and Chapter warmly welcome music groups who would be interested in hiring the Cathedral for an evening concert.
Within the constraints of the Cathedral Diary, requests for evening concerts are usually required one year in advance, although it may be possible to accommodate requests at shorter notice. The Cathedral Nave or the Chapter House may be hired for an evening concert.
The Nave can accommodate up to 1020 persons, and upon request of the hirer, a tiered or flat staging can be used, as well as the Cathedral's ancillary instruments.
The Chapter House can accommodate up to 120 persons, and contains a grand piano if required by the hirer. In addition, a number of green rooms are available for concert hirers. Concert hirers may also request the use of rooms for receptions.
Lunchtime concerts
Alternatively, the Dean and Chapter would welcome soloists and smaller choirs who wish to put on an informal lunchtime concert. Please contact the Department of Liturgy and Music if you are interested, enclosing some information about your music group, and a CD recording.
The Chapter House is an ideal location for informal lunchtime concerts, for which the Grand Piano is usually available for accompaniment. There is a retiring collection at the end of the concert which goes towards Cathedral Funds. Please note that no fees or expenses are paid to performers for informal lunchtime concerts.
