Singing the Hours: Performing Gregorian Plainchant (An RSCM Devon Event)
Led by John Rowlands-Pritchard of Opus Anglicanum
Sing Gregorian Chant for a day in the wonderful surroundings of Exeter Cathedral, structured round the
monastic offices of Terce, Sext, None. Working sessions explore the riches of adventurous chant for Lent; and
the day concludes with the unique opportunity to sing Vespers in the Quire, which replaces Evensong. Choir
robes will not be required. Music will be provided.

The concert will blend the old and traditional, Handel's Messiah Part Two, with the new, Poulenc Gloria. The Choral Society will be accompanied by a large and exciting orchestra of professional musicians, and some of our pupils will be singing some of the solo items alongside professional soloists.

The Sixteen
Featuring arguably the three most celebrated composers from the Franco-Flemish school of the Renaissance, this programme is centred around movements from the staggering 10-part Missa Et ecce terrae motus by Brumel (the 'Earthquake Mass'). After Josquin, Brumel is considered one of the greatest composers of his generation. Lassus, writing some 30 years later, was clearly influenced by both composers and he is known to have performed as a singer in the Brumel mass

The Olympianist: Anthony Hewitt
Internationally renowned pianist and avid cyclist Anthony Hewitt is the Olympianist. He will cycle the length of Britain, from Land's End to John O'Groats, with his piano trailing in a van, in aid of charity. At the end of each gruelling leg of the ride he will give a recital either outdoors on the van or in a venue where he is invited to perform.
Here in Exeter Anthony gives a free recital on Cathedral Green upon arrival, and then will perform in the intimate surroundings of the Chapter House in the evening.
