Farewell to Dean Jonathan
Monday 3rd July 2017
A farewell service for the Dean of Exeter Cathedral was attended by hundreds of people from across the country, representing his 35 years of ordained ministry.
Dr Jonathan Draper celebrated his last service with a full orchestral Eucharist on Sunday. The congregation was made up of people from Exeter and also from York Cathedral, where he was Canon Theologian, and his former parishes in Putney and Manchester.
Effective 1st September 2017, Jonathan is taking up a part time role as the general secretary of Modern Church, an international society promoting liberal Anglican theology. He and his wife Maggie will continue to live in Exeter, where Maggie works as Head of Supportive Care at Hospicecare.
Tributes were paid to Jonathan for his five years at the Cathedral, during which time he oversaw significant repairs to the 900 year old building. The appointment process for his successor is currently underway.
