BBC Radio 4 and Exon Domesday
Tuesday 13th June 2017
Earlier this month, Exeter Cathedral’s Exon Domesday manuscript was the subject of BBC Radio 4’s “Making History” programme.
Exon Domesday, held in Exeter Cathedral’s Library & Archive, is the only surviving manuscript from the regional surveys carried out which provided the data for the final Domesday record, the great audit of William’s new Anglo-Norman kingdom in 1086.
Professor Stephen Baxter (St Peter’s College, Oxford) and Professor Julia Crick (University College London) are among the partners working to deliver new insights into the motivation of William to undertake such an epic survey when his new kingdom was under threat from European enemies.
