The Centre for the Study of the Christian Church seeks to promote the scholarly study of the Christian Church. It is a response to widespread interest among laity, clergy and the informed public in the nature of the Church, its unity, ministry and mission. The Centre is ecumenical and interdisciplinary.

The Centre provides, from time to time, taught courses on ecclesiology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Theology of the University of Exeter. It promotes enquiry and discussion through the Richard Hooker Lectures and study days, the Ecclesiology Seminar in the University, and twice-yearly consultations at St George's House, Windsor Castle. The Centre facilitates academic research on aspects of the Church, leading to higher degrees of the University of Exeter.

The Centre brings together several institutions with a common aim: the University of Exeter, Exeter Cathedral, the South West Ministry Training Course, the University College of St Mark and St John, the Adult Training programme of the Diocese of Exeter and St George's House, Windsor Castle The Centre is currently sponsored by the St Luke's College Foundation, Exeter Cathedral and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Centre welcomes enquiries about its work.
