The Cathedral Director of Music is responsible for music. He chooses the repertoire, selects and trains the Cathedral Choir, arranges the summer series of Organ Recitals, and has many adminisirative duties in connection with the extensive musical life of the Cathedral. Together with the Precentor, he draws up Services for Special occasions. He is conductor of the Exeter Diocesan Choral Association.

The Organist plays the Organ for the majority of Cathedral Services. He contributes to the musical education of the Choristers by means of instrumental tuition and trains the Probationers. He directs the Voluntary Choir and is also Organ Adviser to the Diocesan Advisory Committee.

The assistant organist is the director of music in the Cathedral School. He trains the girl choristers and plays the organ for the Cathedral Voluntary Choir.
