We put 100% of your money to work. All donations are invested with professional advice ensuring that your money is protected against inflation and remains with the Trust in perpetuity. The interest generated from this capital funds our work. This work covers 6 key areas:

1Pipes

THE GREAT ORGAN

The fine cathedral organ requires regular maintenance and periodic overhaul. The four manual Harrison organ stands on the Great Screen, one of the few cathedral organs that remains in its original position. The case dates from 1665 and is one of the best examples of its period. The Chamber Organ and 3 Grand Pianos are also maintained and overhauled in perpetuity by the Trust.

2Girls

THE LIFE OF THE CHOIR

The choir sings over 300 services each year. Its high reputation is enhanced by international tours, broadcasts of evensong and recordings. The Trust helps fund some of the choirs needs and the education of the choristers, both boys and girls who come to us from all walks of life and from all parts of the country.

3Music

CARE OF ANCIENT MUSIC

The Cathedral has a fascinating, rare and valuable store of ancient music. This is kept alive alongside the music of this century by diligent care and upkeep and funded by the Trust. This collection includes C18th Part Books, original manuscripts by Purcell and Wesley ( including letter from Purcell complaining about payment!). Modern techniques of conservation are being developed and used. The Cathedral Choir requires a great deal of sheet music - this the Trust provides.

4

GENTLEMEN AND LAY VICARS

The Trust provides support by paying for stipends and scholarship awards, payments for the commitment in time and travel of men singers.

5Choir

CASSOCKS AND MATERIALS

The trust provides for the cassocks and other materials, and for special requests that arise to assist the Cathedral music.

6

LOW COST ADMINISTRATION

The Trust is run by highly committed volunteers whose time and energy make our work possible. The costs of administration are therefore kept to a minimum - less than 1% of income.

Can you help by becoming a choral supporter with a donation, (preferably via Gift Aid or Payroll Giving), a corporate Gift Aid donation, a gift of Shares, Loan Stock or Unit Trusts or a Legacy in your Will?

By personal donation under Gift Aid

By this method the Trustees can recover the tax paid on your gift enhancing its value by over 28% (every £1,000 given is worth £1,282.05). If you pay higher rate tax, then for a gift of £1,000, you may recover tax of £230.77 on your tax return.

All we ask is that you confirm, either verbally or preferably in writing, that you are a taxpayer.

By personal donation under Payroll Giving

Simply inform your employer that you wish to give to Charity via a payroll deduction, specifying Exeter Cathedral Music Foundation Trust as the beneficiary. You will get instant tax relief on your regular monthly donation and, in addition, the Government will give us an extra 10% until April 2003!

By a donation from your CharityCard account

If you have a CAF CharityCard account, please send us your CharityCard cheque.

By Corporate donation

Simply send us a cheque. Your company will be able to claim a deduction for the full amount of the donation in your Corporation tax computation.

By a gift of Shares

If you were to make a gift of quoted shares, then you will be able to ignore any personal capital gains tax liability arising on the disposal and, in addition, will be eligible for Income Tax relief on the market value on the date of gift at your marginal rate (40% for a higher rate taxpayer). Please contact us for the necessary share transfer form(s) for completion. Tax relief is claimed on your Self Assessment or Corporate tax return.

Pledging is of particular value to donors who do not pay tax on the gifted amount and contribute out of current and recurring income. It can become a form of regular subscription.
